PRESIDENTS REPORT - AGM 2008
I'd like to open this report by thanking the committee from whom I have worked for the past two yars. The committee working with the coaches has been able to make some quite large changes to the program and squad structures. And most of these changes have been quite successfull.
ADMINISTRATION AND ORGANISATION
I would like to thank Margaret Mattews and Deb Emmett, both of whom do an enormous amount of work behind the scenes to keep the club running. With the increase in members we have had this year this work load has increaased significantly. Fortunately we have been in a position to be able to purchase accounting software which is making the process of keeeping the books easier, however that doesn't mean that keeping track of mail, invoices and receipts goes away.
Margaret has also been learning the Meet manager program and co-coordinating with the pool to improve our access to facilities and to orgainise the Encouragement Meet for next year.
John Ringer's efforts in chasing things up, which are to numerous to mention, except to say that his efforts, along with the others on the fund raising sub-committee in organising fundraising events, have resulted in another excellent year of fundraising. The club will continue to need the support of all parents and swimmers in helping to run these fund raising events, the committee tries to run these primarily outside of the club, which support the swimmers without making demands of our hip pockets, the more time that you can lend to assist the less pressure we will all have on our finaces.
The Linsay's, Margaret, Janine Gibbs, and Neil have all been critical to getting the new format of the club Competitions up and running on the computer, in a fairly short time, on a steep learning curve. Sometimes we've had some stressful incidents when things don't work out right, and I'm sure we'll have more, but please understand and give them some time to sort it out when it does happen. We still need to update some of the rules and to make sure they work properly in the system, but this will make the workload lighter in future.
RESULTS IN THE POOL
Lilydale had fantastic results at all of the events we attended in this past season and I would like to thank our professional coaching staff and congratulate all of those who participated. It was great to see the men's relay team retain the District Friendship Trophy, and to see the club achieving its best District Championships overall points score for many years. Along with our results at interclub this has restored Lilydale as one of the leading clubs in the district.
THE FUTURE OF THE CLUB
The outgoing committee will be recommending changes to structure and timing of squads next season, and will be expanding the Fitness squad to accommodate swimmers who are no longer competing as much due to work and other interests. The Encouragement meet which heralds a much anticipated return of Liydale to organising public swim meets deserves everone's support.
We do need to continually infuse the committee with new ideas, even if you can't commit to being on committee, all ideas and any assistance are welcome, please talk to one of the committee members or send suggestions to the Secretary. I am pleased to see that we have seem to have the balance right, with a small operating surplus for the year. Some increase will need to be passed on next year however I'm sure the committee will minimise these as much as possible
